A village shop has to provide convenience and good value for money. It has to have the works – the basics, that anybody may run short of unexpectedly, the resource for the unplanned guests. It has to have the daily conveniences: milk and bread, newspapers, the sudden need for a battery or a mousetrap or a packet of needles. The important thing is that first, they should be available when they are needed – they have to be in stock, and secondly that they do what they are meant to do – firelighters that light the fire properly, bread that is worth buying. Frankly, being cheap isn’t the answer to everything. And then there are the popular local goods we want to reinstate – ham sliced to order, freshly baked rolls.

Easter Monday: 8am – 1pm
